Ideas’ phase 1999-2000

The use of copper for producing solar electricity is a fascinating idea for the leading copper producer in Europe and complements the innovative processes and products of Aurubis. The project becomes additionally attractive by the use of selenium, which is also a metal produced in the Aurubis Group, and by the application of electroplating processes that are operated by Aurubis on a daily basis on a large industrial scale.

A project draft is prepared together with researchers from the Institute for Solar Research (ISFH) and a solar specialist company. CIS Solartechnik GmbH is founded and commissioned to develop a flexible CIS solar cell.
