Application

Solar cells are used for decentralised electricity production in grid-connected and off-grid plants and in consumer durables.

Most (about 95 %) are used in grid-connected solar plants that feed the electricity produced into the existing electricity grid.

The largest sales markets for solar plants are Germany (2900 MWp in 2009), Italy (700 MWp in 2009) and Japan (500 MWp in 2009).
